HL “Jay” Jacobson, III, DDS
Dr. Jacobson was born in San Diego’s East County in 1955, and was raised in El Cajon, He attended Our Lady of Grace Elementary School, Saint Augustine High School, and the University of San Diego. He received his B.A. in Chemistry. He then attended the University of the Pacific, where he received his Doctorate in Dentistry. He practiced general dentistry in Fletcher Hills for 18 years. To date, he has served the Dental needs of San Diego’s East County and the Imperial Valley for 44 years.
In 1998, he elected to further his education by attending an endodontic residency at Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), in Portland, OR. He studied under J. Craig Baumgartner, D.D.S., PhD., F. James Marshall, D.D.S., and Gordon Marshall, D.M.D., among other very significant mentors. He is the primary author of two published papers that appeared in the Journal of Endodontics and the O.O.O.O.O. medical and endodontic journals. In 2000, he finished the program and began Practicing again in El Cajon, California.
From 2001, Dr. Jacobson has been an Assistant Professor of Endodontics at Loma Linda University, School of Dentistry, Department of Endodontics. He also teaches and performs examinations at OHSU. He has lectured nationally and internationally regarding current and classic topics in endodontics. He is an active member and past president of the El Cajon Valley Host Lions Club and maintained a 100-Ton Masters License with the United States Coast Guard for over 30 years. He enjoys fishing, reading, teaching, and building computers.
In 1980, he was awarded membership in the Tau Kappa Omega Dental Honor Society. In 2006, Dr. Jacobson received his Board Certification in Endodontics and is an active member in the American College of the Diplomates. In 2007, he was awarded a Fellowship in the International College of Dentists. He is also an active member in the American Association of Endodontists, currently serving on the scientific committee as a reviewer for the Journal of Endodontics. He is also a member of the California State Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association and currently serves as chair on the ethics committee with the San Diego County Dental Society. He currently maintains an Oral Conscious Sedation Permit from the State of California Board of Dentistry. This was made possible through DOCS Education and further study.
